Melamine-Tainted Eggs From China
ANCHOR: Despite working hard to convince the world that Chinese food is safe, Hong Kong has now found traces of melamine in some eggs imported from China. STORY: The eggs were imported from Chinas northeastern city. Hong Kong asked Beijing earlier this week to investigate how melamine turned up in Chinese chicken eggs. Tests over the weekend detected melamine in eggs, and the contents are nearly twice the legal limit. This news is further blighting the “made in China” label. Beijing egg vendor Mr. Qiu says egg prices have dropped by ten percent. Yet, despite the latest scandal, he says his customers continued to buy eggs. [Mr. Qiu, Egg Vendor]: “We are doing alright these days except that the price has dropped a bit. It is fine. It hasn’t been affected much for the time being.” To make the situation worse, there was a rumor last week in Sichuan that ten thousand tons of tangerines had to be destroyed because of fruit fly. This rumor has cost farmers millions of dollars in lost sales. Sichuan denies the reports, saying only 12 tons have been destroyed and that the situation is under control. Ms. Xiao, a tangerine farmer from Hunan province in central China, says farmers in her region have suffered large losses. [Ms. Xiao, Tangerine Farmer]: “Business is really bad now. It is all because of the fruit flies that hit Sichuan province. The farmers in my hometown Hunan province have suffered great loss.” A stream of food safety scandals have rocked faith in the safety of …

Music News: Welsh songstress to quit music?
For many, listening to music is second nature whenever getting work done in the office or around the home. But it can be all too easy to like an artist today and forget about them tomorrow and though some, like Kylie or Madonna, have a great comeback factor, others become one hit wonders and fall into obscurity.
Recent reports from celebrity gossip website Holy Moly! claim that Welsh songstress Duffy is set to quit the music industry after disappointing sales for both her sophomore album Endlessly and her debut single from the album, Well, Well, Well, which only sold 4000 copies through the month of December. That may sound like a lot of copies sold but to put this into perspective, tween heartthrobs Jedward sold 9000 copies of their debut single in the first week of its release alone.
Duffy hit the music scene in 2008 with her debut album Rockferry. With its retro soul sound, she took the world by storm, selling over 4 billion copies and winning a number of prestigious musical awards, including the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album and the Best British Album Brit award in 2009. She wowed critics and the world with a sound that emulated the greats from a bygone era with tracks such as Mercy and Warwick Avenue being successful chart toppers.
]]>
This success wasn’t the first time the Welsh singer was in the spotlight, as in 2003 she appeared as one of the contestants in the Welsh music talent show, Wawffactor. There she started her career in music, topping the Welsh charts and gathering enough attention to garner interest from Mercury Records, who she later signed a record deal with before releasing Rockferry.
Then, taking some time out from the spotlight, Duffy parted amicably from her management and cut ties with her manager Jeanette Lee. Celebrity news websites speculated this was because of a strained relationship between the two but a statement was later released saying that ‘the professional relationship between Duffy and Rough Trade management [had] run its course.’
Close friends to Duffy leaked to news sources that the reason behind her decision was that due to the disappointing reception to her second album, Duffy just wants to concentrate on her family and life, and that music was just an interest she wanted to pursue, and not a career. But as always in the realm of celebrity gossip, this is only just speculation, as the Welsh singer has yet to confirm any of these rumours.

Access Hollywood Tips for Celebrity Autographs
Access Hollywood and contact your favourite celebrity star. Is that possible?
Many of us have a special celebrity that we admire. Celebrity news certainly keeps us up to date on their lives and professional engagements but often we seek something a little more personal. Celebrity memorabilia of all kinds is collected worldwide and autographs are a collecting area of special interest to many. It can be an interesting hobby as well as a very lucrative one if you intend to buy and sell.
But the problem for many celebrity fans is the difficulty involved in actually getting a signed photograph or just a plain autograph from your favourite celebrity star. If your celebrity lives in another country thousands of miles away then the chances of meeting face to face is pretty remote. So the solution obviously is to request an autograph by mail. That may be your only route to access Hollywood to get your special autograph.
With this approach you also have the opportunity to send some extra items to be signed along with your initial letter of request. What you wish to send to your celebrity is your choice but it could be a photograph, magazine cover or an item of clothing. Magazine covers or photo pages within those magazines can be a good idea. They will look very attractive when signed and would be ideal for framing and creating a group collection. Celebrity memorabilia collectors are more likely to buy items that are well presented and that can be easily displayed.
]]>
If you have several celebrity pictures then they are definitely worth sending for autographing.
And remember that if you do decide to send some celebrity photos or magazine covers, always place them between two pieces of strong cardboard to prevent them from being bent or crushed. This may increase your postal charges but a signed photograph in pristine condition is worth considerably more than one that is crumpled and dog-eared.
The next important step is to actually finding reliable addresses for your chosen celebrity.
You can find some information on celebrity and fan sites but often the actual celebrity choice is fairly limited and contact details are often incorrect or out of date.
Many celebrities naturally value their privacy and will often restrict the amount of signed material they are prepared to make available to the general public. But, if you send your request to the most current contact information that is available, this will certainly improve your chances of receiving a favourable response.
Composing your celebrity letter in the best form is also very important.
You need to use a little psychology here and give the impression that you are a genuine fan (you might well be already in some instances). In your letter mention some of the celebrity’s career highlights, what you consider their most important attributes and why you are a dedicated follower. Try to be sincere in your praise and not over critical. All celebrities want to be appreciated and many will welcome some light, well-structured criticisms.
A definite ‘must’ is always to include a self-addressed envelope with your request and address it clearly and to the best contact details you can find.
Now you just need to be patient and remember that your request could be one of hundreds possibly thousands. It takes time to meet the demands of celebrity fans. But, with some luck on your side, you should manage to access Hollywood and reach your celebrity if you have followed the advice already mentioned.
Good luck.

Is Mr Cameron shooting his mouth?
Mr David Cameron’s critics including David Miliband, Britain’s ex-foreign secretary find him indiscreet and loud with his political comments whether at home or abroad. The problem in part lies in the fact that politicians as a group have become so maligned that it would be difficult for them to escape criticism regardless of the manner of their approach or stand to an issue. If for instance Mr Cameron had chosen to be less scathing and direct that would have been interpreted as being dithering, lacking conviction and not calling a spade a spade. Ambiguous statements which are characteristic of politicians are generally viewed as a wishy washy exercise attempting to keep everyone happy. It calls for courage and conviction to speak strongly and in no uncertain terms when it comes to major issues, which Mr Cameron has exhibited in good measure.
I for one would believe that there is something sincere and down to earth in Mr Cameron’s strong remarks whether in domestic or international issues. Such a manner of speaking may invite criticism from people long accustomed to polished, well rehearsed, neutral statements which are a mainstay of politicians. These statements conceal more than they reveal. While one may or may not agree with what Mr Cameron has to stay, there is something very candid in his statements that cannot be missed.

His comments on Gordon Brown encouraging cronyism and how his way of running the government reflected his own traits of being secretive, power hoarding and controlling and how lobbying is the next big scandal waiting to happen and observations on money buying power, power fishing for money and a cosy club at the top making decisions in their own interest come out as very strong statements and a personal attack on Mr Brown. But coming in the wake of a massive fake expenses claim by 3 labour MP’s who had produced false statements to fleece an already overburdened State exchequer to the tune of 6000 pounds and a Prime Minister dragging his feet on such a grave issue, these outbursts only reflect the deep anguish of a person deeply concerned and moved.
Mr Cameron was criticized for his comments that “Pakistan should stop exporting terror” during his recent visit to India. Viewed strictly in terms of diplomacy and state craft these comments may seem rather politically incorrect to make, especially when one is speaking from a country which is hostile to the country in question. But what does one call a country which has consistently supported terrorist camps in its territory, encouraged and helped terrorist outfits like the Lashkar-e-toiba, Al Qaeda etc through its intelligence agencies, given refuge to well known underworld don Ibrahim Dawood who has strong links to terrorist outfits. The involvement of Pakistan has been repeatedly and conclusively proven whether it was the attack of India’s parliament, the terrorist strike of Mumbai, the London Bombings and even 26/11, if this is not exporting terror then what is it??
Finally Mr Cameron’s observations in Turkey that Israel is making the Gaza a prison reflect what almost the whole world is expressing about Israel with the exception perhaps of the US. This strong criticism of Israel in fact has pushed Britain’s stock up in the world’s eyes; a world which has been long accustomed to a UK toeing the US line on everything.
It may be too early to sit in judgement on Mr Cameroon’s abilities or what his government will ultimately deliver but the man certainly comes out as someone who has his strong views and is only too willing to make it open.
